Top Tips for Buying and Using Two Person Sleeping Bags
If you and your partner are planning a camping trip, and are considering buying a two person sleeping bag, then
this article might just be of help to you. You see, there are a few things you should consider before buying a two
person sleeping bag – here are our top tips.
First, realize that unless one of you is in training for the iron man, and needs to carry a lot of weight to
practice endurance and strength training, two person sleeping bags are not suitable for long hikes. The reason is
simple – they’re a lot heavier, and only one person is carrying them!
Two person sleeping bags are, however, perfect for your average trip to a campsite, or even to a remote cabin,
where extra bedding (or any at all) may not be available or sufficient.
A great option if you like the notion of a two person sleeping bag, but need to be able to share the load, so to
speak, when you hike, is to opt for two single bags, that zip together to form one bag. Most manufacturers will be
able to tell you which of their single sleeping bags are also compatible with the two person sleeping bag
configuration.
Another important point to note is that two person sleeping bags are usually rather large, rectangular objects,
which take up a lot of space in a tent. If you’re sharing a tent, or your tent is small, it may not be the best
choice.
Do your research. Things like filling, lining and zipper configuration all make a big difference to the comfort
with which you will both sleep in your two person sleeping bag. Differential insulation, accessory pockets and bag
liners are just a few more options you will both have to decide on. In fact, when shopping for two person sleeping
bags, it’s best to visit the store or site together, and decide on the various options as a couple.
If you want to keep your two person sleeping bag cleaner for longer, then a bag liner is an absolute must. In fact,
if you’re going on a long trip, two or three are a good idea. That way, if one is dirty or damp, you can wash or
dry it, while you use the other. Much simpler than trying to wash a sleeping bag, especially a bulky and heavy two
person sleeping bag!
Remember that if you do use a two person bag, and it does get wet, you’ll both be caught in the cold! If your bag
somehow gets wet during the night, be sure to get it dry as soon as possible, as neither one of you will have a
backup plan!
Two person sleeping bags can be great for couples who enjoy the outdoors together. However, bear these practical
tips in mind when buying and using them. They’re not suited to every purpose, and sometimes, two single bags, or
two bags that can zip together are a better choice than a two person sleeping bag. If your mind is made up however,
buy the best you can afford, and you should be fine!
