How to Choose the Right 2 Person Sleeping Bag
I remember the first few times I went camping. I had a tent, but very little else, and instead of a sleeping bag, I
took my duvet with. Needless to say, it wasn’t the most comfortable experience, but I suppose when you’re young,
that doesn’t matter all that much.
That all changed however, when I got my first 2 person sleeping bag. Not only are they more comfortable, but
because they’re designed for the purpose, they’re warmer, and moisture resistant too. Add an air mattress, and it’s
almost as comfortable as a bed in a five star hotel (well, sort of.)
If you and your beloved love the great outdoors, then a 2 person sleeping bag is a great investment. Here are a few
tips to help you choose the right one:
Look for a bag that is rated for the climate you’re camping in. Some can handle 0˚, while some are only rated for
25˚. A bag that is too warm won’t work in warmer climates, but if you’re heading somewhere cold on your camping
trip, a colder temperature bag will be your best bet.
Another good idea, if you’re heading to a cold destination, is to get a bag with a hood. We lose a lot of heat
through our heads, and a hood helps prevent that.
Look for 2 person sleeping bags that are made from rip stop fabric, but that have a soft cotton inner lining. That
way, your bag won’t be irreparably damaged if it’s torn, and you won’t sweat, even though you’re staying warm!
Another good option is to look for a 2 person sleeping bag that can be zipped into two separate bags. That means
that you can go away together, or on your own.
Consider the fill. There are two main options here – synthetic fill, or natural down fill. Synthetic fill will be
cheaper, and they perform well under wet conditions. They’re also hypoallergenic, so there’s no risk of hay fever.
Down filled 2 person sleeping bags are more expensive, but they take up less space, and are easier to carry.
There are also 2 person bags on the market that have differential fill. That means that each side has a different
insulating fill, and that the bag is suitable for a larger range of climatic conditions. That makes it a good
choice for keen campers, as you will get more use out of your sleeping bag.
If you have lots of ‘stuff’ look for a 2 person sleeping bag that has extra pockets. That way you can stash your
belongings safely.
There are plenty of great 2 person sleeping bags on the market. Since your sleeping bag is all that really
protects you from the elements, and the cold, its worth investing in the best that you can afford. That way, you
can be sure you’ll be warm and comfortable when you sleep, and that your bag will last a long time.
